To the left of the lock gates is a natural over flow that bypasses the lock gates re-entering the river at the end of the staging pier (this only works in high flood and is very overgrown). There is no part of the weir or sluice that you can paddle on, I would not even recommend shooting the poor over weir at low levels when there is little or no tow back at the bottom as it is enclosed at both ends and you will not get out!
However Teston is a great place to tour from with a large car park with toilets and a beautiful park that you can picnic in or walk around. great access to the river from the landing stage or the concrete plinth above the locks.
DO NOT PADDLE ON OR OVER THIS WEIR!
