Dart Trip 18th/19th November
Please pay before Saturday 5th Novermber or you will lose your place.
In response to requests for more club trips, Niki has arranged an extra trip to Dartmoor this autumn.
Depending on river levels, we will paddle the Dart Loop on the Saturday and the Walkham/Tavy on the Sunday.
Accommodation We will be staying in the brand, spanking new bunkhouse at the Prince of Wales in Princetown! It is so new that the website is not online yet and I will add the link once it is uploaded. It sounds really good so fingers crossed that it is as good as it sounds! It is booked for Friday and Saturday night. The bunkhouse will accept well behaved dogs. You will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow and towel.
Food The Prince of Wales has a very good reputation for food and breakfast can be provided for £5. They have a large back room in the pub that we can book for our evening meal on the Saturday if we all want to eat together. There is a kitchen if you would prefer to prepare your own food. You will need to bring river snacks and whatever you need for lunch on both days. We will bring coffee, tea, milk and sugar.
Cost Two nights accommodation in the bunkhouse - £25 Two nights accommodation in the bunkhouse with breakfast on both days - £35
The Rivers
For those of you who are newer to paddling and unfamiliar with the Dartmoor rivers, the Dart Loop, Lower Walkham and Tavy are all grade 2/3. This is a bit more challenging than the Barle. You will need to be competent at breaking in and out, ferry gliding, support strokes and at least the beginnings of a roll – though we all appreciate that it can take a while for a ‘pool roll’ to become a ‘whitewater roll’. Use the Barle trip and Yalding (especially below the bridge) to work hard on developing your skills to prepare for this. If you are unsure please ask.
Information about these rivers can be found by clicking on the links.
